KWL charts are a commonly used tool in classrooms. They allow your students to activate prior knowledge about a specific topic, share their interests about that topic, and show what they have learned at the conclusion of a lesson/ unit. They are great for allowing your students to truly connect with learning.
KWL charts are not only helpful to students, but to teachers as well! For example, you can give students this chart before a lesson/ unit as a pre-assessment to see what your students know/ don't know about a topic. This will allow you to see what content to include in your lessons. Furthermore, you will be able to see what your students want to learn so you can choose meaningful and engaging material. After the lesson, you can redistribute the charts and have the students fill in the "L" column to show what they have learned. You will be able to see which students are ready to move on and which students need additional instruction/ support.
This product has several versions including color, black and white, and the option to print your chart with a front and back in case your students need more space to write. There is also a page entitled "More Things I Learned" for those lessons/ units that your students take away a lot from! Best of all? It's FREE!
Happy teaching! :)
