I distribute the KWL Chart just before we begin a topic, as we are required to include students in our planning. They are instructed to fold the L section out of sight until our topic is finished (it can be completed at the end).
The students complete the K and W sections individually. I gather their charts, summarize and type their responses onto the teacher version. I then copy this onto large copy paper and display it on my focus wall.
