SIMPLE: download, print, (laminate or not), whole punch, put on a ring and voila! You have 10 Classbuilding Kagan structures at your fingertips! The structures are Kagan strategies from the book Classbuilding by Dr. Spencer Kagan, Miguel Kagan, and Laurie Kagan. This is simply a reference tool of flipcards with these AMAZING strategies for active engagement in the classroom. To be a "highly effective" teacher, all of your students are to be engaged, not just the few you randomly call on to answer questions. It is suggested you teach these strategies using very simple concepts such as "discuss something you did this summer" or "what is your favorite book and why?" Then, once they know the routine of the strategy, then add in the content area.
These strategies are a great way to create a safe, engaging learning environment of interdependence, cut down on discipline issues, and make your students LOVE coming to your class. These structures can be adapted from Pre-K-Adulthood. Some will argue that their students are too young or too old, that's phooey! Everyone loves to learn by interaction and engagement. Every strategy is adaptable to your specific need!
