Ken Burns has wonderful documentaries and I have found that I can use many in my classroom. Creating questionnaires is time consuming, however, for some films, needed, so you know students are paying attention to what you would like them to learn.
If you have Amazon Prime, the documentary is available as Watch Now under Ken Burns American Lives Episodes 12 and 13.
This documentary follows Lewis and Clark on their expedition from beginning to end of life in two parts. Each part is 1 hour 45 minutes long. I used a week of SS class to show it to my students before entering the chapter about Lewis and Clark and their expedition through the Louisiana Purchase.
Part one of the questionnaire with 30 questions, mostly multiple choice, for students to answer as they are watching the film. Questions are spaced far enough apart that students should be able to keep up with answering them. Most are in order.
Part two is a short answer questionnaire that they can answer during/after they watch the film.
Warning: Some swear words (2-3) are used, however, I send home a permission slip prior to watching.
