This is such a great way to practice the vocabulary for Kensuke’s Kingdom (shortened anthology version). Many reading series neglect to include additional vocabulary practice. This product has been a nice addition to my instruction. It works great with a particular Houghton Mifflin Harcourt series as that is where many of these vocabulary words can be found. (I take no credit! )
There are two versions included. They both contain the same words and definitions, but one set is in plain format, the other includes a small graphic. I know some school districts have limited copying available, so I wanted to include a plain version. I cut and laminated my cards so they are reusable year after year.
This set is best when you have 16 students, but you can always give a student two cards if you have less than that in your class or play more than once if you have more than 16 students, so everyone gets a chance to participate. Be sure to shuffle the cards thoroughly before handing out to students. I usually project the word bank on my board the first time we do this activity, until my students become a bit more familiar with the words.
