Third, the law of periods. Primary topics tackled in this lab activity are models of the solar system, history of astronomy, orbital properties (similarities and differences), a detailed and dynamic math based ellipse lab, eccentricity, aphelion, perihelion, and much, much more.
This is a thorough and DYNAMIC activity that covers a ton of information about planetary orbits. This has been used as both a lab and an assessment. This is an effective teaching tool in small groups and as a class.
