Product Description

Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History debuted on Netflix in February 2019. During this comedy special, Hart talks to his fictional daughter about important men and women in Black history including:

  • Henry “Box” Brown
  • Frederick Douglas
  • Robert Smalls
  • Matthew Henson
  • Robert Johnson
  • Mae Jemison
  • George Speck
  • Fred “Curly” Neal
  • Jesse Owens
  • Joe Lewis
  • Josephine Baker
  • Bessie Coleman
  • Vivien Thomas
  • William Tillman

Included in the viewing guide is a two-page table which provides a photo of each person in the special, background information to help students understand each of the comedic reenactments for each person, a space to write notes about each person, and a place to reflect on why each person is a hero.

I HIGHLY encourage you to watch the special before purchasing this resource and showing the special to your students. Because it is a comedy, it is not appropriate for all audiences. I would recommend only showing the comedy special to students in the late high school years. You know your students best, please use your judgment :-)
