Product Description
Hook your students with the interesting non-print text of a nonfiction documentary. Get students to synthesize new content and prior knowledge by asking them to connect 5 key Transcendental ideas to the film, Shackleton’s Antarctic Adventure. Students will be synthesizing before they even know it.

You can also use this same assignment for other nonfiction documentaries for films. Even if you are not currently teaching Transcendental literature or the time period, this 60 minute lesson is great for discussion and critical thinking. Perfect for literature or history teachers. This lesson is classroom tested and peer reviewed with Advanced Placement, American Literature, and Class-within-a-Class students. For lower level students, I suggest providing an example and asking the students to explain why the example fits the key idea. This is a very modifiable lesson for all types of learners.

Use with other film or documentaries as well. I have included a short list in the teacher directions page of other titles that will work well. I have provided a generic student handout so you may use a film of your choosing for this lesson/activity.

This Product Includes:
• Teacher Directions Page
• Student handout for Shackleton video
• Student handout generic
• Teacher answer key for Shackleton video
