This is a full 90 minute lesson that includes an opener, short lecture, and assessment where students use the information from the lecture to create a newspaper interview. All materials are included and the powerpoint includes quite a few visuals.
There are four key people covered in this lesson - an artist (Michelangelo), a political philosopher (Machiavelli), a playwright (Shakespeare), and an inventor (Gutenberg). It provides information on the childhood, training, and major achievements of each. It is customizable so that you can add or delete whatever you choose. After students take notes on the four people, they choose one to interview for a newspaper article.
I have used this very successfully in both my on-level and ESL World History class. For on-level students you can use the lecture as an introduction and have them do additional research before they complete the assessment. You can also extend it by having a few students act out their interviews in front of the class.
