This fun musical card game reviews key signatures and scales for the entire whole Circle of Fifths.
Recognizing key signatures and scales in music is an essential step towards becoming a fluent reader. Your students will practice quickly seeing the amount of sharps or flats in a key signature and naming the scale. Although you can use this game with all of the scales, you can easily modify the difficulty of scales used in the game for your beginning students. This game uses the same rules as the classic children's card game, War.
Shuffle and deal out all of the cards, giving each player an equal amount of cards. Each player places his stack of cards face down, in front of him. The goal is to be the first player to win all of the cards. Each player turns over a card at the same time and the player with the scale with the most sharps/flats takes both cards and puts them, face down, on the bottom of his stack. If the cards have the same amount of accidentals, it is War. Each player places four card face down and then one card face up. The player with the higher card takes both piles (ten cards). If the turned-up cards are again the same interval, repeat the war process. The game ends when one player has won all the cards.
Wild Cards: If one player turns over a wild card, they name an interval that is larger than their opponent’s card and take that match, as well as ten additional cards
