Product Description
It seemed to me that the, "What note is that?" question was never ending in middle school band. After years of teaching, I had not come up with an effective way to help students solidify in their mind the rules, process, and interaction of the key signature and accidentals for music. I created this double-sided, one-half page handout this year to help students learn, remember, and use the multiple rules for key signatures and accidentals in helping them determine, for themselves, what would be the correct note to play. It has really helped my students process the information, and become more self-sufficient. When I ask them what a certain note is, they have to respond with the “It’s a ___ because of the ___...” quote at the bottom of the page. It is working very well. I use it in conjunction with the Key Signature vs Accidental worksheet and poster.
