Key Word Sort - Whether its a reading or a math issue that is causing students to struggle, teaching key words can provide students a lifeline to solving math word problems!
How to use this resource:
Copy the key word sort for each child or pair of children. First teach students that each key word is a clue that tells you to add, subtract, multiply, or divide. Some key words may mean more than one operation. For example, the word “each” can mean to multiply or divide, depending on how the question is worded.
It is recommended that students work on the key word sort in pairs, as this gives them extra support and encourages them to talk and “defend” the choices they make.
