This simple mat is such a great tool to use with students of all proficiency levels. I use this mat to help build vocabulary, being forming sentence, conjugate verbs correctly, and expand on student's vocabulary by creating more complex sentences.
1. Think of all the nouns (people/animals), verbs and nouns (places) that your students already know or are working on.
2. Type them up (the list I included is what I used with a novice low student I'm working with) and practice sorting them into the different categories.
3. Use a picture (even better if you can use pictures of the students!) and have the student select 1-3 words that describe the picture in each category and move the words to the correct box.
4. If student is able to, conjugate the verb correctly and write a complete sentence. If student is not able to, identify the correct words will help build their confidence until they are able to.
Make sure to use the words quien, que y donde several times when discussing the picture. I also draw a little stick figure in the "quien" box, a question mark in the "que" box, and a little house in the "donde" box.
**Student can also use this template to draw their own pictures and then write about them**
