Keyboarding- History of the QWERTY Keyboard and Typing Internet Hunt with Answer Key
This is a fun activity students in a keyboarding course can do at the beginning of the course. This is a short, fun Internet research assignment. For homework or in class, students research questions on the history of the keyboard and typing. Questions include: Who invented the first practical typewriter and the QWERTY keyboard still in use today, approximately what year was this typewriter invented, what was the reasoning/need behind the creation of the QWERTY keyboard, etc.
You can count this as a graded assignment or do what I do. For each correct answer I give the students one extra credit point that they can use toward a test. I use raffle tickets! The kids love it! This is a great activity for students to learn why the keys are arranged the way they are. You can also research articles online and have the students read them.
