Keyboarding- Typing Games- Race to the Finish Line
This is a fun activity to do with students in a keyboarding/typing class to help students build their typing speed.
Each student will receive a copy of the list of dinosaur names. Students will be given a designated amount of time in which they must type as many dinosaur names as they can. They should enter after each one. Have students type in Calibri, 14 font size. Tell them to get rid of the default 1.15 line spacing. The names of various dinosaur names are very long and give students an opportunity to test their endurance in keying lengthy and unfamiliar words without any pauses between keystrokes. The goal of this activity is for students to keep their eyes off the screen and hands while typing the dinosaur names. This is an exercise geared toward speed. The winner could be whoever finishes first with all words spelled correctly/no typos or set a time limit and whoever types the most words correctly wins. Can have more than one winner. Can also reward all students who can get half the list or the entire list completed correctly in a designated amount of time. Can also have students type with their monitor off/covered, keyboard cover on, etc. If choose to select numerous winners, can put names in a hat/papers in a hat and choose one or a few.
Included in this download will be the dinosaur list and the directions sheet.
