Product Description
I created this assignment for my keyboarding class, but it can also be used in a creative writing class. The basic idea is that students are given random elements such as plot, characters, setting, genre, etc that they have to make into a story.

The activity can be done in one of two ways: If you do not have access to computers and Excel, you can use the paper version. Pass out the first page, where students pick random numbers for each element. Then pass out the second page, which is the key to what each number is. The other way is recently added and it is SO fun! Students open the Excel worksheet that is attached. They push the buttons to pull up a random adjective and character. The kids just LOVE doing it this way--it makes the whole activity a lot more fun!

I just pulled up the assignment and pushed all the buttons to get my story. Here is what I got:

Main Character: Beautiful Queen
Side Character: Cruel Model
Antagonist: Scared Wizard
Genre: Romance
Setting: A parking lot
Conflict: A hitchhiker
Random Objects: A cute baby, a canoe, a book, and a magic wand.

Now I have to write a story that makes sense!

My students had a blast with this. I've been doing this lesson a long time, but when I added the generator it really pushed it up a notch and the kids just thought it was a lot of fun. Great way to help keyboarding kids hone the skill of typing from their heads instead of from copy, and it is a nice break from typing programs.
