This resource is a prepared / scaffolded scholarly journal article on the Khoisan / Kung San, a modern hunter-gatherer group in the Kalahari desert. This was used in an AP World class. Students had to read and annotate the text (the first few pages are annotated for students as an example, along with difficult words defined) in order to learn, in depth, about different aspects of Kung society. This is definitely a challenging resource and should be used only with AP students and perhaps first year college students as it is a 15 page reading. That said, my AP World students were mostly tenth graders and were still able to make their way through it. After finishing it over a long weekend, we had an hour long Socratic seminar about whether hunter-gatherer society represented a better way of life than early agricultural societies.
