Product Description
In this project, students work in groups of 3 or more to write and illustrate a nonfiction book!

I have successfully had 2nd graders - 5th graders collaborate to research, write, and illustrate a book. I have used this packet to guide students through the process of working together, problem-solving, researching, pulling out the main ideas, utilizing nonfiction text features (glossary, table of contents, captions, etc.), writing, editing, illustrating, and even creating a dedication page! I have also used this with Scholastic's Kids Are Authors writing contest (http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/contest/kaa_about.asp)! This creates an authentic audience for the students. They get so excited to enter their book. This is also a challenging activity that requires students to think, plan, and create in a group!
