The Pocket Chart is ESSENTIAL in K in my opinion! I LOVE it! Construct the sentences together teaching essential early reading strategies such as number of words and letter, 1-1 matching, spacing, rereading, looking at the first letter (highlight this with tape or pocket chart highlighter strips!), punctuation, and CROSS-CHECKING the FIRST LETTER with the picture. I HIGHLIGHTED the FIRST letter of the picture word to assist in cross-checking!!! Some of those little guys STILL don't automatically know where to look quickly! After whole group instruction - put it in your pocket chart center/station for independent reassembly. OR- check out my accompanying book WE LIKE THANKSGIVING DINNER in which you could first read for a whole group shared read and/or GR and then for independent and partner reading! THEN use the pocket chart strips in whole group to model reassembly and proceed to independent practice in pocket chart center. SO FUN!
