This is a series of math word problems that are based on the Letter of the Week. As a Kindergarten and First grade teacher, I have found that my kids always need extra support solving word problems. I also like to have the “Letter of the Week” theme run through all curriculum areas. That is why I created these word problems.
There are 5 word problems for each letter of the alphabet, for a total of 130 problems to solve. These problems mainly focus on addition, subtraction, and intro to multiplication (counting/drawing objects in groups). There are just a few other random Common Core math skills included.
These pages can be used in several different ways:
I print the whole set, put them in a 3 ring binder (because that sits nicely on my whiteboard tray), and we solve one a day as a whole group during calendar time.
They can also be copied as a class set and used as worksheets for whole group or center time.
Some years I copy the sets ahead of time and make them into daily ‘Math Journals’ for each child.
I hope you enjoy these pages and they help
your students build their math skills!
