Product Description
By Claire Guidry Math Addition Fluency Assessing
I use this set of addition and subtracting problems to test students with their fluency of addition and subtraction.
Before starting assessing fluency I make sure the students have been taught how to add and subtract. I teach them how to add and subtract using fingers, objects, number line, drawings and acting out. Once I know they understand the concept of adding and subtracting then I give them addition and subtraction drill work. (The math fact drill work I use is in Teachers Pay Teachers titled Kindergarten Addition Math Facts Common Core Based/ Kindergarten Subtraction Math Facts Common Core Based) I allow the students to use any of the methods I have taught to complete the addition and subtraction. This strategy allows for varying learning styles to succeed.
After I see the students can add or subtract fairly well then I use the Math Addition and Subtraction Fluency Assessment. The levels range from sums up to 3, sums up to 4 and sums up to 5. For subtraction 3-, 4-, and 5-. (Common Core Standards KindergartenOA.3 Fluently add and subtract within 5.)

A large percentage of my kindergarten students are reading and writing at a mid-first grade level and higher by the end of the school year. Some are reading 80+ words per min. and writing 5 sentences tied together on one topic.
