***This file is available in Homework Menus: Kindergarten. If you are looking for an even more deeply embedded system for sight word acquisition please check that unit out. Along with 1 full year of print and go monthly homework menus you will get these assessments, blank/editable PDF menus, and blank/editable PDF calendars.
This file contains: a parent letter explaining the significance of sight words, 9 pre and post assessments appropriate for kindergarten literacy.
The pre-assessments include a note for parents about the purpose of the assessment and how they can use the results at home to help their student master the task.
The first assessment covers letter/sound knowledge and identification. There is a pre and post assessment as well as a prompting sheet for students to read from.
The subsequent assessments (October-May) cover the first 150 Fry words. Half of every newspaper article, textbook, children’s story, and novel is composed of the first 100 Fry words. Using this assessment system you will cover 150 of those words. If your students are able to read these words without hesitation, they are well on their way to becoming fluent readers.
