Description

Fun with Decodables? YES! This resource features engaging reading comprehension passages, questions, and games focusing on CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.

These passages, which align with the Science of Reading, are ideal for students who are reading at Guided Reading Level C (DRA Level 3).

25 Reading Comprehension Passage Sets are featured. Each Set Includes:

★ Decodable Reading Comprehension Passage featuring CVC Words

★ Reading Comprehension Questions

★ Game or Activity such as Roll and Read, Word Count, Board Game, or Real vs Nonsense Word Sort

★ Triangular Stories to Help Build Confidence and Fluency

Help your students become skilled at reading simple passages and answering text-based comprehension questions with these engaging worksheets!

As students find the evidence that supports their answers, they participate in their very first close reading lessons.

To provide flexibility, for use in distance learning and/or a classroom setting, the following options are offered:

1) A link to a document in Google Slides

2) A link to a document with a JPEG image of each page

3) Ready for use with Easel by TpT™ (the new TpT Digital Tool)

4) Printable, as a traditional PDF, in full color and also in an ink-saving black and white version

These activities support the following Common Core Standards:

★ Students will recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.

★ Students will answer questions about key details in text.

★ Students will read common high-frequency words.

Please Note: This resource was updated in May of 2021 to align with my current understanding of the science of reading.

The original resource, which was written in 2013, is also included at the end of this file (at no additional charge).

The original resource is far less decodable. I recommend it for tasks such as for choral reading, comprehension work, and marking text evidence.

The original version includes an additional 30 reading comprehension passages, offered in the following formats:

★ Full color version with crayons for students to color-code where they found the answer for each question

★ Ink saving black and white version with crayons to color-code evidence

★ Full color version without crayons for color-coding

★ Black and white version without crayons for color-coding

********************************************************************************************

This resource is ideal for morning work, homework, home learning packs, or literacy centers.

I am finding that, with guided practice, kids quickly develop the skills they need to be successful reading these passages and independently answering the text evidence questions.

Many thanks for stopping by and taking a look!

Sincerely, Anne Gardner (National Board Certified in Literacy)
