While teaching First Grade homework using our phonics curriculum words for spelling lists each week, there were a few students that still didn't grasp applying letter sounds and did not come to First Grade knowing any sight words. This combines sight word recognition and CVC word reading/writing using the keyword chart. At the end of each week is a test with the same spelling words and sight words. I go around to those students to have them read the sight words to me at the end of the week. I document the tests and write the scores on the front page of the homework packet. I circle the words that the students missed on the test so parents can practice those at home over the weekend.
