Christmas Writing Activities
Math Centers Include:
Tasty Ten Frames- Students match the ten frame card to the number card. When a match is made, they write the number on their activity page.
Missing Number- Students look at each card and fill in the missing number using magnetic numbers, tiles, or a dry erase marker. Then the missing number is written on their activity sheet.
Santa’s Shapes- Students look at each shape and determine how many sides are shown. A bingo dabber is used to mark the number of sides on their activity page.
Rudolph’s Tallies and Ten Frames- Students spin the spinner and use a counter to cover the matching tally or ten frame on their game board. This game can be played with only tallies, only ten frames, or both.
Hide and Seek Santa- Hide each Santa card in the classroom. Students find each card and write the amount shown on the ten frames.
Jolly Measurements- Students use the Christmas Tree measuring sticks to measure the height of each object. The measurement is written on the recording sheet beside each object’s picture. For a more festive center, measure with gum drops, peppermints, or Christmas M&Ms.
Which is More?-Students choose a card, and count the holiday objects. A bingo dabber is used to mark the object there is more of.
Literacy Centers Include:
Festive Beginning Sounds- Students look at each card, say the word, and write the beginning sound in the same number box.
Jingling Ending Sounds Write the Room- Hide the cards in the classroom. Students find each card, say the word, and write the ending sound.
Syllable Pocket Chart Sort- Students sort the cards based on their syllables. Students write one word from each category.
Colorful CVC Words- Students choose a card and read the word. Students color the matching picture on their paper. Make sure the color it the same color as the word!
Santa Rhymes- Students spin the spinner using a paper clip and pencil. They find and color the rhyming word on their paper. Then they create their own rhymes.
Middle Sound Trees- Students choose a card and determine the middle sound. A bingo dabber is used to mark the middle sound on their paper.
Christmas Word Cards- Use these cards at your writing center to help students write sentence, makes cards, or create lists. They can also go on your seasonal word wall.
