~Kindergareten Common Core Assessment~
By Natalie Melton
This comprehensive assessment is to be used as a "Student at a Glance" checklist to add to your kindergarten assessment gradebook. This comprehensive assessment checks for all the skills that are crucial to a kindergartener's success. This assessment is to be used for each kindergarten student as a way to measure what they know (at the beginning of the year) and what they learn throughout each grading period. As described in the directions on the product file, this assessment is designed to be used periodically, either monthly, or every nine weeks, or during each grading/progress period. Simply use different colored pens or colored pencils in order to be able to see, visually, what your students are learning (this is explained on the directions page of the packet). With this assessment you will receive a checklist for the following skills:
*Capital Letter Recognition (marked by a C on the letter grid)
*Lowercase Letter Recognition (marked by a L on the letter grid)
*Sound Recognition (marked by a S on the letter grid)
*Concepts of print (author, illustrator, front cover, and back cover identification)
*Genre identification (fiction and non-fiction)
*Compound word identification
*Phoneme deletion (can change first, middle and end sound of a simple word)
*AIMS Web benchmark grid to list scores for letter naming fluency, letter sound fluency, phoneme segmentation fluency, and nonsense word fluency)--This can also be substituted for whatever other assessment you use, in case you do not use AIMS web.
*Common Core Kindergarten Sight Word Grids--one grid for each nine weeks with a list of kindergarten words. You simply highlight the words the students know.
*Number identification to 20
*2D Shape identification (square, circle, triangle, rectangle)
*3D Shape identification (rectangular prism, sphere, cylinder, cube, and cone)
*Coin identification (if taught): penny, nickel, dime, and quarter
*Counting by 1s to (simply write what they can count to in the box during each assessment period)
*Counting by 5s
*Counting by 10s
*Counting backwards from 10
*Telling time to the hour (if taught)
*One to one correspondence counting of 10 objects
This product correlates to my other products, Common Core Kindergarten Polka Dot Word Wall (goes with the sight words) and my Kindergarten Common Core Sight Word Lists.
I use the grids as a homework tool and a way for parent involvement. After initially assessing my students with this assessment, I add a handout in their practice folder (from my product Kindergarten Common Core Sight Word Lists), whether it be uppercase letters, or sight words--whatever skill they need to practice. They are to practice this grid each night with their parents. It makes for perfect differentiation. Once the skills are learned, they move on to the next grid.
