Addition and Subtraction 0-5 Timed Tests for improving Kindergarten, Common Core math fluency

When my kindergarten teacher colleagues saw Math Racer for First Grade that I developed for our seven first grade teachers last year, they asked if I would make a set of timed tests that would match the Common Core for K. They wanted fewer problems, larger numerals, and more white space between the problems. They loved the font that I had used (KG Penmanship) because 9’s were straight, not like upside-down 6’s, and the 1’s didn’t have that little flag on them!

There are lots of commercially available assessments that go beyond the facts 0-5, but “Math Racer for Kindergarten” is specifically designed to focus on the Common Core facts 0-5 only. And Math Racer has design features that K teachers want for their students.

The components include:

CONTENTS PAGE
Lists the levels and the corresponding math facts

ADDITION
• 8 leveled timed tests that build on one another with two review pages

SUBTRACTION
• 14 leveled timed tests that build on one another with two review pages

Some of my K teachers are still wrangling with the decision about the “timed” aspect of it, but most of them have decided to give a two-minute timing, which should be plenty of time. Of course, depending upon your philosophical point of view, you may just prefer to use these as worksheets and not timed-tests.

We decided to write the problems vertically because that is what the children will see in most timed-test situations. And we decided to put formatting boxes around the first few sets so that the children would know to work top to bottom. We have found, that especially for lefties, working top-down is an easier way to more smoothly and quickly move their hand than moving their hand in a left-right direction.

Please download the free Preview to see the size of the font and the white space between math problems. I hope you will like it as much as my colleagues do!
