Product Description
This download contains an ELA writing journal for Kindergarten. This journal is meant to provide students with practice with basic writing and ELA skills.

Your students will:
1. Write write short vowel words from a model, then trace and copy a sentence using those words.
2. Match antonyms and use the words (with picture cues) to complete a sentence.
3. Identify beginning sounds to write uncode a sentence, then copy that sentence.
4. Alphabetize four words by their first letter (using an alphabet strip), then trace and copy a sentence using those words.
5. Identify 3 rhyming words, then trace and copy a sentence using those words.
6. Sequence three pictures, then finish sentences to tell a story about those pictures (sequence words are provided).
7. Write a sentence with a given Kindergarten high frequency word.
8. Write a story about a picture that they can color. (A word bank with key words and pictures helps to support independent writing for all of your emerging writers.)
9. Draw a picture and write about it. (Topic of their choice)

You will receive 10 pages of each activity (with the exception of the Topic of Your Choice page - you can make as many copies of those as you want for your journals). They are provided to you in groups, but you may want to spread them out to provide practice with each skill throughout the school year. This way, this product can make a 90-page writing journal.

Each page has three-lined writing space for students to compose their sentences. Pages in which students write their own sentences contain a self-check for capital letters, ending marks, and spelling. Students can color a thumbs up symbol when they have checked their work for these items.

I also have a similar product for primary grades. You can find it at Primary ELA Writing Journal .
