Easter Reading Passages and Addition Word Problems

This pack includes 11 reading comprehension passages and 5 pages of addition word problems within five.

The Easter Reading Comprehension Passages in this pack are designed to help kids develop comprehension skills while also becoming skilled at answering multiple choice questions. These passages are written for students at Guided Reading Levels C and D.

After introducing the multiple choice format, I like to discuss the first few passages with groups and demonstrate how to answer the simple text-based questions. Some of the passages are similar to each other so you can use one passage to teach and the other to check each student's understanding during independent work.

I am finding that, with guided practice, kids quickly develop the skills they need to be successful reading these passages and independently answering the multiple choice questions.

This packet includes 11 reading passages with 3 multiple choice questions each. I hope you find them useful in helping your kids develop reading comprehension skills and prepare for end of the year assessments.

The addition word problems are designed to help students develop fluency with addition within 5 while also working with common sight words. There are 5 pages of addition word problems with 3 word problems per page.

I use these in a variety of ways. Sometimes, I’ll put a sheet on the projector and we read and complete the problems together. I also like to use this as a math center. I provide number tiles or magnetic numbers and have kids work with partners as they use these materials to complete the problems.

Once kids are comfortable with the format, I also send an occasional sheet home for homework. Kids earn a Peep or similar Easter treat for returning their work. (This resource is also ideal to send home during school closures.)
