WEEK 4 FOCUS (Independent Literacy and Centers)

This week in your literacy centers instruction you will be embarking on a new center. You will be introducing your students to the creative writing center. This center is one of my personal favorites as it truly allows your students to be creative as they learn to express themselves through our written language. You will see them share ideas and stories from their own experiences. They will discover that through writing they have the ability to share knowledge and experiences that only they can share. You will see your students in a new light through their writing. Allowing your students the opportunity to practice writing and letter formations is essential to building their skills and both reading and of course writing.

That is why this week is completely devoted to establishing a creative writing center. There are lessons that provide you will both resources for helping your students write independently as well as to develop an understanding that each of us have unique and special stories to tell based on our memories and interests. We also teach them how to make their own mini book for stories as well as how to write to a prompt.

By the end of the week your students will be shouting from the mountain tops that they love to write and express their ideas.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

This curriculum is fully SEL-integrated across all subjects. According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and the Aspen Institute's Commission on Social, Emotional and Academic Development, SEL-integrated curriculum is needed to strengthen student outcomes and life success. Research has conclusively proven that SEL skills work, can be taught and not only improve social skills but also improve academic development.
