Phonics and Fluency is one of the four types of language lesson plan packs included with the Kindergarten Heroescurriculum. (The other three are Interactive Read Aloud, Writing and Independent Literacy and Centers which can be found separately in our store).

I hope you are ready to reach new heights in week four of phonics and fluency! By this point in your instruction we have covered 12 letters of the alphabet. Your students are well on their way to gaining letter sound knowledge for over half of the letters of the alphabet. As we continue to introduce another six letters this week, we also continue to spiral back and review past letters through our letter sound signal cards. As the teacher of your students you are tracking your students letter retention though our Demonstrate It printables. Keep in mind you have access to extra printables to support small groups, added practice or simple review later on.

We also hope you are finding our Monday instruction options helpful as you think and plan about what your students need. Remember these resources are also great to use and support small groups.

This week you will be teaching the letter sounds for H, J, U, L, D and W. You will continue to go on a letter quest but this week it will be along side Sir Edmund Hillary as he reminds students to have an optimistic outlook. As we teach more letters and sounds we want to encourage your students to start where you are, use what they have and do what they can.

You will receive five 15-20-minute lesson plans and scripts with Social Emotional teaching tips and SEL and state standards met. (We also provide ways to modify these lessons to 5 and 10 minute versions to meet your needs). Additionally, you will receive weekly and daily overview pages for the following lessons:

This curriculum is fully SEL-integrated across all subjects. According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and the Aspen Institute's Commission on Social, Emotional and Academic Development, SEL-integrated curriculum is needed to strengthen student outcomes and life success. Research has conclusively proven that SEL skills work, can be taught and not only improve social skills but also improve academic development.

The Phonics and Fluency lesson plans may be used conjunction with the matching Kindergarten Heroessubjects (Math, Science, SEL, Interactive Read Aloud, etc) or as a standalone subject to suit your needs. For additional Language instruction, see also the WEEK 4 Interactive Read Aloud (Close Read) and WEEK 4 Independent Literacy and Centers packs.
