This quick and fun math assessment will give you the information you need about your new students’ readiness for your kindergarten math curriculum. It is a one-on-one oral assessment with a script and a page of pictures, so you can do it yourself or ask a parent volunteer or aide to do it with each student in early September.
1. Identify shapes (square, circle, rectangle, triangle, oval, diamond)
2. Identify colors
3. Point to and "read" numbers
4. Count aloud
5. Count items 1-10
If you like this product and it fits your teaching style, please also look at my math assessments for Day 60 (end of first trimester), Day 120 (end of 2nd trimester) and Day 180 (end of year). Doing these assessments will give you a snapshot of the students’ progress so you have the information you need to fill out report cards and re-mix your math groupings, if necessary. They are Common-Core aligned.
There is no score at the end. This is an assessment for the teacher to know where her/her students are upon entry to kindergarten.
