As early childhood educators, we have a special role to play in the field of education. At the youngest ages, children are able to enjoy, participate in, understand and appreciate art and music. But, it requires teachers who believe this and know how to present music in artful and developmentally appropriate ways.
This is what CLASSICS ROCK! CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN is all about. Great works of classical music, world music and jazz, are paired up with beautifully illustrated storybooks. You read the story as the recording is playing in the background. Following this are activities that flow from the music and story – songs, rhythm, fingerplays, movement, and more. The teaching strategies emphasize learning modalities - kinesthetic, tactile, spatial, aural and visual participation by the children. The activities can be taught over several lessons and are suitable for PK/K/1st grades, depending on the level of your children.
The storybooks I suggest are all in print and used copies can often be found very inexpensively on Amazon. The recordings can be found on Amazon MP3 digital downloads or on iTunes. I give specific directions so you can easily find the recordings you need. Once you have these resources in your library, you will use them for many years to come.
In BOATS, TRAINS AND TRUCKS TOGETHER WITH CLASSICAL MUSIC, I suggest 5 storybooks for you to read with selected recordings of classical music playing in the background. There are some visual aids included.
