Please allow me to introduce my Kindergarten Music Program – Kindaria. This is a 40-lesson program designed for kindergarten teachers and educators, regardless of musical background or ability. This has been a labour of love, emerging from my years of experience as a kindergarten teacher, musician, and classical singer.

Through engagement with music, children develop an awareness of musical concepts such as sound, beat, rhythm, dynamics, melody and instrumentation. Music learning also extends vocabulary, develops language, enhances memory, builds literacy awareness, aids in maths comprehension, encourages the use of imagination, enhances creative expression and self-awareness, helps children build physical skills, social skills and cultural understandings, and assists in developing their ability to manage stress and maintain wellbeing.

Unfortunately, research shows that many teachers and educators do not feel confident to implement music programs with young children, despite understanding the benefits. This was my inspiration for Kindaria, to provide teachers and educators with an easy-to-use lesson plan for each week of the kindergarten year, requiring only well-known songs available on YouTube and concrete resources that are available in most classrooms. Each lesson introduces a new song, which is repeated over the following two lessons. This enables the children to build a repertoire of 40 well-known songs by the end of the kindergarten year.

Kindaria is a music program with a difference. In addition to teaching concepts such as beat, rhythm, dynamics, and instruments of the orchestra, it also includes an introduction to jazz, music theatre, classical music, ballet music and opera, as well as topics such as singing in another language, music from diverse cultures, singing with sign language, and the music of the didgeridoo. Kindaria also includes ideas for additional learning opportunities related to the concepts explored in each lesson. These include dramatic play, art, cooking, family/community visitors and other enriching experiences.

I hope you enjoy Kindaria!
