Here you will find storybooks that relate to the seasons. Each story is paired up with a selection from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” that compliments the story. You read the story as the music is playing in the background. Following this are songs and musical activities for you to teach which are related to the story theme or the classical music. The activities can be taught over several lessons and can be used with PK or first grades, depending on the level of your students. No matter what your background in music, you will find lots here that you feel comfortable teaching.
These are some of the skills that children will develop through the activities:
1. listening skills, acute listening
2. hearing Classical music, moving to Classical music
3. singing and singing games
4. steady beat
5. rhythm patterns - tactile, spatial and kinesthetic
6. rhymes, fingerplays
8. small and large motor coordination
9. eye-hand coordination
10. social skills
11. inner hearing
12. using Orff instruments
CLASSICS ROCK! CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN is all about introducing children to great classical music, world music and jazz using storybooks that are paired up with one of these styles of music. The storybooks I suggest are all in print and used copies can often be found very inexpensively on Amazon. The recordings can be found on Amazon MP3 digital downloads or on iTunes. I give specific directions so you can easily find the recordings you need. Once you have these resources in your library, you will use them for many years to come.
