This 84 page mega-unit is designed to do 2 things:
1) Meet Next Generation Science Standards for Kindergarten Motion & Stability: Forces & Interactions, AND

Included is everything (well, almost everything) you need for this unit. The teaching of science requires some materials, but I have chosen simple, everyday tools you most likely already have in your classroom.

There are 12 lessons in this unit, covering the major standards under the Motion & Forces section PLUS the cross-cutting concepts AND connections to ELA and Math Common Core. Detailed Lesson Plans are ready to print, hole punch and put in your Lesson Plan Binder! Printable "I can" statements, science word wall words, Student Lab Sheets and Question Reward Tickets are included for every lesson!

SL.K.3 Ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood. (K-PS2-2) Covered in EVERY Lesson via the Question Reward Ticket system. You'll love this so much, you'll want to use it across the curriculum!

Materials Needed:
•varying sizes/weights of balls (marbles, bouncy balls, etc.) 1 per student, or you can take turns.
•varying sizes/weights of pull toys (can be any toy vehicle with yarn/string attached)
•sticky notes
•measuring tape (or ruler)
•a new pencil with an unused eraser
•balance scale (If you don’t have one, you can just compare by putting objects in both hands to determine which is heavier.)
•dominoes

Unit Overview:
Lesson 1: (K-PS2-1), (K-PS2-2)
I can describe what happens to the motion of an object when pushed or pulled.

Lesson 2: PS2.A: (K- PS2-1),(K-PS2-2) I can demonstrate different strengths of pushes and pulls on an object.
A bigger push or pull makes things go faster. (secondary to K-PS2- 1)
I can describe what happens to the motion of an object as more force is applied in the push or pull.

Lesson 3: PS2.A: (K- PS2-1),(K-PS2-2) I can demonstrate different directions of pushes and pulls on an object.

Lesson 4: (K-PS2-1) I can describe what happens to the motion of objects when they touch or collide.

Lesson 5: (Standard for Lessons 5-8: K-PS2-1)
I can plan an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

Lesson 6: I can conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.
(K-PS2-2) I can collect, record, share and analyze data from investigations to determine if our hypotheses were correct.

Lesson 7: I can plan an investigation to compare the effects of different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

Lesson 8: I can conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.
(K-PS2-2)
I can collect, record, analyze and share data from investigations to determine if our hypotheses were correct.

Lesson 9: (Standard for Lessons 9-11: K-PS2-2)
I can engineer a domino design in which the motion of a push or pull will trigger the series of falls to an end destination.
Common Core Connection: Mathematics –
MP.2, K.MD.A.1, K.MD.A.2 and (K-PS2-1)
I can determine how many dominoes will be needed in our design.
I can compare the attributes of two objects to see which has more/less weight and length.

Lesson 10: (K-PS2- 1),(K- PS2-2)
I can design simple tests to determine if my group's domino design will successfully fall to the end destination.

Lesson 11: I can demonstrate a falling domino course in which the motion of a push or pull will trigger the series of falls to an end destination. (culminating activity)

Lesson 12: (K-PS2-2)
I can collect, record, analyze and share data from investigations to determine if our design works as intended.
