This curriculum is thoughtfully created with the understanding of what sound combinations are easiest to learn. For example, the word off is easy to blend because there are only 2 sounds and they both can be made continuously. The word go, is much harder to blend because there is a stopped sound first. Conversely, go is a much easier word to segment than off.
Compound words and syllables are included first to teach students how to do these skills, but are not considered phonemic awareness components.
