Kindergarten Math Placement test is a way to gauge your Kindergarten students’ current functioning and growth in Mathematics. It is a quick evaluation or assessment of several math skills to see where your students are and what they need to master.

Kindergarten screening is important for educators as it can be used as a tool for future planning and early intervention for students at risk. My Math Placement test includes basic math skills such as counting, number sequence, number recognition, cardinality, sorting, color/shape names, more/less, number conservation, and comparing quantity. This placement screening does not require a lot of time to administer. Use the placement test to get a quick glimpse of your students’ math level for planning and small group instructions.

Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
