The Kindergarten Readiness Handbook is a 118-page resource for soon-to-be kindergarten students and their parents; it was designed to help prepare kindergarten students with essential literacy, math, and kindergarten readiness skills. This resource is intended to be given to pre-kindergarten students the spring or summer before kindergarten, but can also be used for a pre-k summer program or in a pre-k classroom.
The handbook is easy-to-read with parent tips throughout and includes multiple letter and number flash card sets. It focuses on many skills, but the most important is that your student be excited about school and be ready to learn new concepts in the classroom. The skills included in this handbook are:
- color recognition
- concepts of print
- letter recognition
- name recognition and writing
- handwriting (uppercase and lowercase)
- pencil grip
- letter sounds
- sight words
- scissor grip
- number sense 1-10
- shape recognition
Materials needed: crayons, pencils (small golf pencils recommended), markers, scissors, glue, and dot markers (optional).
Tip: Many of these pages are consumable, meaning that once your student uses them they are done. If you would like extra practice for any of the pages, simply make a copy or reprint the page from the digital version.
UPDATE: Now includes a British/Canadian/Australian spelling version of the handbook. Enjoy!
