Product Description

I created this resource because I am a special education teacher, and I was looking for ways to help my students with learning disabilities continually practice skills we are learning in reading. I also wanted a way to monitor their progress throughout the year to help me write more specific IEP goals that would target their areas of need. I couldn’t find any progress monitoring probes that were a mixture of different skills from the Common Core, so I decided to make one! Here’s what you get in this assessment pack:

  1. 36 progress monitoring data probes, enough for one per week for a whole school year
  2. Student pages to go with each teacher probe
  3. A reproducible chart to help you track with standards the students are mastering

Each probe covers the following Common Core Standards:
o K.FS.1d – Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet
o K.FS.2a – Recognize and produce rhyming words
o K.FS.2b – Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words
o K.FS.2c – Blend and segment onset and rimes of single-syllable spoken words
o K.FS.2d – Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes)
in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words
o K.FS.2e – Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words
to make new words
o K.FS.3a – Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing
the primary or most frequent wound for each consonant
o K.FS.3b – Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes)
for the five major vowels. Ways to use the probes:

  1. For students working on below grade-level skills, this can be a way to help them master earlier skills they need to progress to grade level.
  2. For students who are in the intervention process in the regular classroom, this can be a tool to measure their levels and track progress to determine the effectiveness of their response to targeted interventions.
  3. For students working on grade level skills, these probes can be used less often, such as monthly, to assess their progress on each skill and provide data to parents on their child’s progress.
