Our Kindergarten Report Card is a Common Core Standards/GLCEs based report card, based on a quarter system for grading. Throughout the marking periods the card shows growth by highlighting with the marking period color as students show Kindergarten mastery of concepts. The Report Card includes a Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Social Growth and Development, Writing Rubric, Reading Rubric, Data Sheet, and Comment Section.
The Mathematics portion has been changed to have marking periods fitting to our pacing guide for our kindergarten. A total of 25 items can be found in the Math section to make for easier calculation of percentage. The Language Arts portion has also been simplified to have a total of 20 items to make for an easier calculation of percentage. A percentage per marking period can be totaled by finding the total number of highlighted divided by the total number of bullets per section. For example, 5 bullets highlighted for math divided by the 25 available would give the student 20%. During our first Parent-Teacher Conference we discuss with families the percentages and share our expected percentage of about 80% to be ready for first grade without additional interventions already in place. The Science and Social Studies section do not have percentages to calculate.
The recording data sheet has been added for colors, letters, numbers, sight words, punctuation, and shapes. This helped to simplify the highlighting process. We use the recording sheet by writing on by hand with different colored pens when assessing students one-on-one. We chose to do this by hand because of the changes a student may have with knowing a single item as the year progresses.
