Integrate science, art, and writing in kindergarten with these My Very Own Tree Journals - a quick and fun way to fit science into your busy day! Adopt your Very Own Tree. Observe, draw, and write about how it changes from season to season. These make for a great keepsake. Check out the preview.
I use these tree journals to supplement the ASSET Science TREES Unit, but they can be used along with any science curriculum. After reading the book My Very Own Tree, we take a walk outside and adopt a tree for the year. I tell the kids that we will be observing how the tree changes throughout the seasons. Each time we observe our tree (the first school day of the season), we complete one portion of the cover page and one page in the journal. Through a directed drawing lesson, your children become skilled at drawing realistic seasonal trees. After the final drawing, a blank writing page allows room for the kids to write about their observations over the year.
Teacher tips and a sample lesson plan are included.
Book comes in 4 formats with BONUS blank templates and writing pages! NO PREP - Choose your format, copy, and staple!
In a half-day kindergarten program, I find that science is often hard to squeeze into our already packed day. I love that these journals provide a quick seasonal activity for the kids.
