Words included in this book: the, here, is, a, an, I, see, we, and, she, he, have, small, big, no, it, this, go, down, up, do, had, who, are, in, on, can, you, what, at, like, to, not, went, my.
I made this book for my class as an introductory lesson on each of these sight words. Here is how I use it in my Kindergarten classroom:
First, students trace the word on their own.
Next, rainbow writing. Students choose 3 different crayon colors and using one at a time, write the word with each color. After all three colors are used the word should look like a rainbow. Sometimes, the kids ask if they can use MORE than three, if time permits, they can! It’s more practice spelling the word so why not! Be sure to tell them crayons are not used for coloring in the word, rather, another tool to write each letter inside the letter.
In the “circle the word” box, I tell students that they should go through each word and READ the words across the row, even if it’s not the word of the day. You’ll notice that each page introduces new words, and reviews previous words learned.
“Build the word” by cutting and pasting the letters!
