These consonant sound BOOKS address a plethora of beginning reading skills as well as practicing CCSS! Word to word correspondence, reading comprehension, beginning sight words, printing, fine motor cutting, and finally reading comprehension, are ALL practiced in Consonant Sound Sorts!
Students may complete the entire booklet in one session or complete one page daily in whole group or centers. When the booklet is finished, students practice reading the pages to peers and/or reading groups. You may send each booklet home to read with family or save them in individual book boxes to practice reading during the day. Either way, your students are READING, WRITING, & DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN BEGINNING SOUNDS.
Presently, there are 19 Sound Books, (vowels and x & y are omitted) but I am working on the short vowel sounds as well. Some of the skills:
FINE MOTOR: Cutting, gluing, coloring, & writing.
PHONICS: Picking the “appropriate picture” to match the letter.
FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS: Word to word correspondence, letter and sound recognition.
DIRECTIONALITY: Reading or Tracking from left to right.
SIGHT WORD PRACTICE: My kids box the STAR WORDS with a red crayon.
Consonant Sound BOOKS is the newest addition to my ABC PROGRAM along with Kindergarten Sound SORTS. They may be used in tandem with one another or individually. MY ABC BOOK gives students a jump start on reading by teaching all the letters and sounds simultaneously. Take a look: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/The-Kindergarten-ABC-Book-819621
