*Cut, laminate, hole punch, and make a necklace with the 5 cards for each student
After we read a book in whole group, I call on students to pick one card from their necklace. They have to tell me the definition of the word (ex. Author=who wrote the story) and how it applies to our book (ex. The author of our book is Jon Klassen).
Students can use these when they independently read their books to help them know exactly what they need to pay attention to while reading.
Necklaces can be sent home for students to read (and recall story elements) with their parents.
You can add cards (ex. main character, problem, resolution, etc) to differentiate.
