I have 3 sets of cards I created to use during transitions...those quick 5 minutes you have before lunch, or before the next activity.
The first set is a phonemic awareness activity with compound words. In this activity, i read the compound word, and ask them to repeat the word without part of the word. For example: "Say watermelon, but don't say water."
The second set are fun analogies. These are my class' favorite! "Cat is to Kitten as Dog is to _____?"
The last set are common sense problems that come up a lot in kindergarten. We use them to start a short discussion about ways to handle simple problems. "What would you do if you wanted a turn on the swing?"
I printed all 3 sets, cut them apart, laminated them, punched a hole in the corner, put them on a ring, and hang them on a hook. I have them right by my classroom door, ready to go when I need them.
