These worksheets can be used as individual seatwork, small group instruction, or for homework. Each worksheet focuses on one of the 31 high-frequency words taught in Macmillan/McGraw-Hill’s Kindergarten California Treasures. The worksheets can also be used for review in First Grade classrooms.
1. Students read the word, spell the word, trace the word, and write the word. The students should be directed to go through the four steps for each of the three times the word is presented and not read, read, read, spell, spell, spell, etc.
2. Students read the sentences and then circle or highlight the given word.
3. Students “rainbow color” the given word. For example, the student writes the first word with a red crayon staying inside the letter outline. Then the student writes on top of the red crayon using an orange crayon. The student continues writing the first word in the same manner using yellow, green, blue, and purple crayons. The student follows the same directions for the second and third word. I have the students write the letters inside the outline to spell the word rather than have them just color or scribble inside the outline.
