This unit is a journal to be kept by the students. It focuses on the following areas (each is a separate page/lesson)
Parts of a tree: roots, trunk, branches, leaves, blossoms, and fruits.
Using Trees: Squirrels, birds, and other animals live in trees. People use trees for shade. People cut trees into lumber to build homes and furniture. People use trees for food.
Caring for trees: Trees need water, sunlight, and nutrients from soil.
Leaves grow on the tree branches. Leaves are usually green, but can be red, yellow, or orange. Some leaves are small and some are big.
Leaf Shapes: Leaves can be grouped by shape. Leaves come in many different sizes and shapes.
Fall Trees: Some leaves on trees turn different colors. Some trees lose their leaves in the fall.
Winter Trees: Some trees are bare in the winter.
Spring Trees: In spring, the leaves grow back on the trees. The buds on the twigs grow into leaves or flowers.
