Here are some activities I set out for my Kindergarten students in January and February!
What's included:
LITERACY
p. 2-15: WINTER PRINTING {LETTERS} - Tracing and printing letters. Four letters to a page (except for the last page which only has 2) with space to print letters on their own after they practice tracing. In both colour and B&W.
p. 16-20: WINTER PRINTING {SENTENCES} - Trace the sentence and print it underneath! 4 sentences included:
- This hat/toque is red.
- This is a robin.
- I like to drink hot chocolate.
- I like to build snowmen.
p. 21-27: SNOWFLAKE LETTER FORMATION CARDS - I laminate these and use these letter formation cards in my salt tray but you can also use them with dry erase markers!
p. 28-34: SNOWBALL SIGHT WORDS - Pick a sight word, build the sight word and record the word you made on the recording sheet! 2 options for the recording sheet (trace the word or write the word on your own).
Sight words included for this activity are: at, the, I, can, we, like, to, love, was, said, my, little
5-page EDITABLE PowerPoint file is also included so you can add your own sight words for this activity!
p. 35-37: SNOWFLAKE SIGHT WORDS - Flip over a snowflake and write or trace the sight word on the recording sheet! The sight words included for this activity are: this, love, can, to, we, like
A 2-page EDITABLE PowerPoint file is also included so you can add your own sight words for this activity!
p. 38-43: Q-TIP WINTER WORDS & PICTURES - Have your students use q-tip and paint to dot and draw the picture and print the corresponding word! Words included are boots, coat, hat, mitten and scarf.
p.44-47: WINTER WORDS - A chart of winter words to add to your writing centre. Have students use them to copy the words or write a sentence with it. In both colour and B&W. Simple writing paper included.
p. 48-52: DO-A-DOT LETTERS - Have students use bingo daubers or do-a-dot markers to dot print the letters and read the simple sentence! Sentences included are:
- S is for snowman.
- M is for mittens.
- H is for hat.
- B is for boots.
- C is for coat.
MATH:
p. 53-58: WINTER PRINTING {NUMBERS} - Tracing and printing numbers 1-10. Four numbers to a page (except for the last page which only has 2) with space to print numbers on their own after they practice tracing. In both colour and B&W.
p. 59-64: PATTERN BLOCK SNOWFLAKE - Have students make snowflakes with pattern block shapes and record how many pattern blocks they used. Pattern block templates and writing template included.
p. 65-87: I CAN COUNT SNOWBALLS BOOKLET - Have students practice their 1:1 correspondence, number identification and number formation with this booklet. Students will read the sentence and either glue on the snowballs or draw the number of snowballs to match the sentence. Pages for numbers 1-20. Printable snowballs included but you can also punch snowballs out with circle punches or hole punchers!
p. 87-91: WINTER NUMBER ORDER PUZZLE - Have students practice ordering numbers with this puzzle. 2 puzzles, 1-10 and 11-20. In both colour and B&W.
p. 92-121: SNOWBALL PLAYDOUGH MATS - Set out the mats with white play dough. Have students make the numeral with play dough and also make that many play dough snowballs. They can use the 10 frame(s) to support their counting and then use the snowballs they made to put the snowballs around the snowman. Numbers 1-10 are half page mats and 11-20 are full page mats. In both colour and B&W.
p. 122: COUNTING BUTTONS - Set this printable out with paint and q-tips. Have students read the number beside the snowman and put that many buttons on the snowman with paint!
p. 123-126: WINTER PATTERN BRACELETS - Have students make a pattern on the snowflakes and name their pattern underneath.
OR
Have students cut out the squares with winter pictures (snowflake, boots, coat, mittens, hat, scarf, hot chocolate and ear muffs are included) and create a pattern on the blank bracelet template. Then have the students name the pattern underneath.
p. 127-129: HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE CARDS - I put these cards out in a sensory bin with red kidney beans for the hot cocoa, brown snap cubes for the chocolate, real marshmallows and plastic candy canes and paper cups. Then I invite the students to pick a recipe card and make the hot chocolate following the recipe! I also included a black and white version where students can create their own recipes that they can make or have their friends make! p. 130-135: ROLL & COVER: This is a simple number sense activity. Just pick the mats that work for you and add the matching dice! Students can play on their roll (roll and cover until their mat is full) or play with a friend (take turns rolling and covering, the first one to fill up their mat is the winner). There are 2 mats and a dice included for
- Numbers 1-6
- Numbers 7-12
- Numbers 13-18
