In this packet, students focus on one word wall/sight word at a time. This packet includes 43 word wall/sight words.
Students say the word printed in bold at the top (have them sing it, whisper, say in a monster voice, etc.), trace it 3 times, write it 3 times, find it in a sentence, fill in the blank using the word, and on the back (or second sheet), students find the word in a "word find" box and highlight it, then come up with their own sentence using the word.
I use this with students whenever introducing a new word wall word. After students complete it, I staple the words together as we go (I work with 1st grade students who have not yet mastered their K words, so we do 3-4 words per week) and review the words as we go. I put the date in the corner and keep track of whether they identify the word correctly or not each day. This can be done in a similar fashion for younger grades (using 1-2 words per week). Students love to "collect" and own words. It is also very motivating for them to see all the check marks they begin to accumulate as they master the words. This also provides practice for previously learned words as students review and read the sentences that include previously learned word wall/sight words. This is a great way to introduce or reintroduce words using a variety of modalities in order to address multiple learning styles (oral, written/visual, auditory, and tactile). To begin this activity, I usually have the students "trace" the word on the table using their fingertips (saying each letter then the word). I have also used shaving cream/sand for this.
These packets can be kept in a word work folder/writing center for students to access to help them in their writing as well!
